Can I buy a Sehra for my sister’s brother’s marriage without causing problems with my in-laws?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Hi, I am married for the last 2-3 years. My brother-in Law (Sister brother) marriage is planned around EID-Ul Azha, there is a solid custom to use Sehra before baraat depart to girls Home. Now I being Jeeja need to bring sehra with me otherwise my in-laws would be very angry and this might create problems in our relationship. I don’t know whether We are allowed to buy Sehra and present it to my sister brother to use it, specially given the case where there is a chance of creating problems in existing smooth relationships. Please suggest. Jazaakumullah…

The sehra is a Hindu custom. The Hadith says: من تشبہ بقوم فھو منھم (one who adopts the ways of a community he becomes a member of it). Therefore, you should tell your inlaws that this is not an Islamic way; Muslims must refrain from such customs. If you convince them with wisdom they will hopefully accept it.
