Is it permissible to use money that earns interest in a bank account?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamu Alaikkum, I have one question regarding the interest. When we have a account in the bank, they are giving interest for our money once in three months. 1. Can I use this money? Is it Halal? 2. Can I give this money to my relatives(my sisters and brothers)? 3. Can I give this money to my parents? 4. In Zakath money can I admit my sister’s son in the school?(She is poor that she is not able to admit in the school) Thanks & regards!

Answer

(Fatwa: 185/185/M=1431)

(1) No, interest cannot be used in personal needs; it must be given in charity.

(2) If one’s brothers and sisters are poor, one can give them without an intention of getting reward.

(3) One cannot give interest amount to his or her parents.

(4) Hand over the zakah money first to your sister, then if she gives the money for admission of her children, it will be lawful to spend in the same.
