Is Engagement Allowed in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I am 28 years old male. My marriage is very soon. My question is that can I use any engagement (like ring, nose pin, etc.). Does Islam allow engagement? Please reply me answer on Islamic Shariah/Fatwa.

Answer

(Fatwa: 375/307/B=1433)

Mangani and the practice of exchanging gifts is merely a ritual which is not proved in Islam. But in mangani if any ring etc is presented then it shall be a gift as per the Shariah. There is no harm in using it.
