Is it permissible for a graphics designer to take images of the Ka’bah and the green dome?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulfiqh.com

Graphic designers and artists need images of perhaps the green dome and ka’bah shareef for posters and books.  Does this fall under the same ruling?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Taking images of revered places and structures for tadhkīr (as a reminder) purposes is permissible.[i] This aids in reminding oneself of the greatness and sanctity of such places.  Images do help to jolt a person’s feelings.  Hence, taking photos for posters and books is permissible.  The discouragement of taking pictures is on treating these blessed places as a sightseeing trip and a holiday resort.
