Picking up Fallen Morsels of Food

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: Is the food that has fallen on the dastarkhaan which we are encouraged to pick up and eat,the mahr for the hoors of jannah? If not, then is there something to this effect in the riwaayaat?

A: Picking up the fallen morsels of food from the dastarkhaan is a Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) which earns one great blessings and reward. However, the reward of this action being the mahr for the hoors of Jannah is not established. It is reported in the Mubaarak Ahaadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) that the one who picks up any dirt from the masjid, the dirt particles (picked up) will be the mahr for the hoors or Jannah.
