Wearing Silk and Kiswa

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I’d like know if the kiswa (covering) of the Kabaah is made out of pure silk why is man then not allowed to wear silk in Islam?

A: Wearing of silk is permissible for females but not permissible for men because Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) forbade men from wearing silk. (Bukhaari V5 P2133).

He also said that whoever wears silk (males) in this world will be deprived of wearing it in the hereafter. (Ibni Maajah V2 P1187).

This law does not apply to the Ka’bah Shareef.
