Salaah after Asr

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: I read a hadith about two prostrations after asr. Which are they? I’ve been told not to pray anything after asr till magrib.

Volume 1, Book 10, Number 565: Sahih Al Bukhari: Narrated Hisham’s father: Aisha radhiallahu anha (addressing me) said, “O son of my sister! The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam never missed two prostrations (i.e. Rakat) after the ‘Asr prayer in my house.”

A: The commentator of Hadeeth explains that this was not for the Ummah, but was only for Rasulullah Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam.

The general rule is that Nafl is not performed after asr and this is the instruction in other Hadeeth.
