Gatherings of Zikr

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: What is Halqah Zikr?

A: Your question on Halq-e-zikr refers. THis means a circle or gathering of zikr. This is when a group of people sit together and engage in the zikr of Allah. The halqas of zikr are mentioned in the hadith as well, where it is explained that the Angels of Allah surround and witness such a gathering wherein the zikr of Allah is made

A halqa of zikr is permissible on the following conditions:

No mixed gatherings
No music or drums
No disturbance to people reading salaah or sleeping
No eating and drinking, and/or merry-making

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
