Designing a Website

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Will it be permissible to design a website for a company that delivers food? The food will most probably be haraam I assume.

A: A website is a means of advertising a company’s products and facilitating the sale and delivery of its products. The one who designs and creates such a website will be aiding and abetting the company in its sales. This means that if haraam products are sold then the designer will be guilty of assisting and facilitating the sale of such products. The Holy Quran commands: AND AID EACH OTHER IN GOOD AND PIETY AND DO NOT AID EACH OTHER IN SIN AND TRANSGRESSION (Surah Maa-idah, verse 2)

It will therefore not be permissible to design and create a website for any business that deals in haraam. And Allah knows best
