Auditing a Bank

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: A person is working for an accounting/auditing firm and he has to go and audit a bank. The bank is one of the clients of the firm. Would it be halal to do audit of the bank? Would his income be halal?

A: The income derived as an employee of the accounting firm is halaal even when having to do a bank’s audit. When doing an audit of a bank’s financials one is not directly involved in interest deals. However, if possible, the Muslim employee should try to get another colleague to substitute for him when it comes to work of this nature.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
