Bleeding Longer than 40 Days after Childbirth

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: My wife has given birth recently and as she approaches the 40 days she is still bleeding. If she continues to bleed after the 40 days should she have her bath/ghusl or should she wait until the bleeding stops completely?

A: When the 40 days are over and she is still bleeding, she will take a bath and begin performing her Salaah, fasting, etc. After 40 days it will not be Nifaas but will be termed Istihaadhah.
