Istikhara for Someone Else

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Can you advise me on who can read istikhara Salaah for me as I would like to leave my job and open up my own business.

A: Asking someone else to make Istikhaarah on one’s behalf is not proven. Yes, to make Mashwarah (seek counsel) with someone else is Sunnat. It is mentioned in a Hadeeth that the person who makes Mashwarah never regrets and a person who makes Istikhaarah will never be disappointed. You should make Istikhaarah yourself.
