Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is encouraging to note that you have taken a step forward in trying to rectify your husband’s spirituality and making him a better muslim. May Allah Ta’ālā continue to bless you for your efforts. Ameen.

Salah is one of the most virtuous acts in the eyes of Allah Ta’ālā[1]. It is a means for purifying oneself from sin[2] and the key to attaining jannah[3]. Your effort in encouraging your husband to pray salah shows that you value the gift of salah and are willing to go to any lengths to rectify his spirituality. This is a noble effort and Insha-Allah, it will bring your husband to understand your concern for him and lead him to make an effort towards praying each and every single salah.

Nevertheless, it is important to understand that the key to proper communication in a marriage is to understand each other’s temperament and take into consideration how your husband feels in regards to such a matter. It is advisable that you approach your husband on a feasible time so that he may fully benefit from your advices.

If your initial efforts fail, then you may also consult a respectable and reputable person in the community (such as your local Imam) who your husband will trust with such a sensitive matter. Furthermore, you should also make an effort to kindly explain to your husband the importance of salah and the rewards that await one who safeguards his prayers. Through patience and perseverance, your husband will come around and learn to establish a strong connection with Allah Ta’ālā through his salawāt. Insha-Allah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
