Different timings for sunrise

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Regarding salah times – In Birmingham, UK sunrise is at 08:20 and in the same city with different postcodes sunrise can be at 08:00, 08:10 or even 08:05 (sunrise time can vary between 5 to 15 / 20 minutes within the same city). Obviously, the sahabas (RA) did not have this means. Thererfore, trying to perform before 08:05 is irrelevant long as the delay is not too excessive – Is this accepatable? and what is too excessive in ralation to time?

Usually I use my postcode salah timetable to perform salah at home. However, if i was to wake up late one day for Fajr, can I chose to perform my fajr salah in sunrise time that has entered in my post code but not in the city time?

I hope this makes sense

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Fajr time ends with sunrise, which is when the upper edge of the sun appears at the eastern horizon. This time would vary from region to region. However, the variation within a city like Birmingham would amount to only a few minutes.

We advise you to use the website below to find the precise timing of sunrise at your postcode and ensure you perform Fajr Salāh before this time:
