My Marriage is upcoming in the end of December,I would like to seek your guidance in the context of Meher, as this is creating a turbulance and inconvenince betwen people with different views.
We follow the tradition of meher by the name of ” Bibi Fatema” but my inlaws are saying it shuld be 19 misqaal.
Could you plese assist me in clarifying the above 2.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
There are differences of opinion with regards to the amount of Mahr Fatimi.[1]
The amount given by Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam as Mahr to his wives was 500 dirhams. This is equivalent to 1531g of silver. According to today’s (01/12/2014) price of silver,[2] this is equivalent to US$ 785.
Furthermore, the amount of Mahr Fatimi according to some ‘Ulamā is the same as Mahr Azwaaj al-Nabi (Mahr given by Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam to his wives).
