Jinn catching

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I am 21 years old and I am a Hafiz. I wanted to know if jinn catching is halal? I’ve seen videos of it on youtube. I have been afflicted with sihr and have been told there is presence of a female jinn inside me. I have been under extreme stress and a kind of torture which is beyond any explanation for two and a half years, Alhamdulillah i did not lose my mind. I am already seeing a sheikh from Madinah University here in India and he said it would take fourty days for the treatment to fully cure me.

My treatment is strictly from the Quran and sunnah which i am extremely happy about, and i trust the shiekh completely. I am seeing improvement and Inshallah i will not stop until the treatment is fully over. My question was about jinn catching. Is it halal?

I’ve seen a couple videos on youtube where Sheikh Abdurraouf ben halima uses verses from the Quran to bring the Jinn into the body and basically make it leave by asking it to accept islam or kill it.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If one is possessed or afflicted by a jinn, then he ought to adopt the proper channel(s) to cure himself. If the sheikh in reference is using methods which are not against the Shariah, then by all means you should continue with him. However, it should be understood that catching jinns is like medication. If there is a need, then it should be done. One should not focus his attention on jinn catching, nor should one be impressed by someone like that.

To make “jinn catching” one’s objective is contrary to the ethos of Shariah and the general practice of the Sahabah. Our objective in this world is clearly highlighted in the Quran and Sunnah. That is, preparing for the Hereafter by following the commands of Allah Ta‘ālā and staying away from all prohibitions. Furthermore, we as the final Ummah are tasked with propagating the message of Islam to the four corners of the world. The illustrious Sahabah of Nabi salla Allahu ‘alaihi wa sallam understood this objective and responsibility. Hence, their graves are spread throughout the world. The Sahabah upheld the noble legacy and teachings of our Master salla Allahu ‘alaihi wa sallam wherever they went.

We advise you to spend your time in acquiring knowledge of Dīn. There are many reliable ‘Ulamā’ and Madāris in India. You should also spend time in the noble efforts of Da‘wah and Tablīgh.
