Can a second Jumu’ah Salaah be performed?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Due to employment or education, people may not be given permission and/or will not be able to perform Jum’ah Salah at the standard Jamat time in the Masjid. Hence, in summer, a later Jum’ah takes place (late afternoon) in the same Masjid so that people do no not miss Jum’ah altogether?

(a) Is it permissible to organise a 2nd Jum’ah Jamat in the same Masjid where one Jum’ah Salah has already taken place? (b) If not, please explain why?

(c) If this is not permissible, are there any alternative solutions or should one ensure that, come what may, they attend the Jum’ah Salah which takes place at the standard time?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Jumu‘ah salah is like the king of all salawāt of the week. Our utmost sensitivity to preparing on Friday for salah and performing salah timeously is an expression of our Īmān. We should therefore endeavour to attend the masjid for Jumu‘ah as early as possible.

In constrained circumstances, such as the enquired case, if a second jumu‘ah is performed in a masjid, it will be valid. The reference and procedure is mentioned in the footnotes for the benefit of ‘ulamā’.[1]
