Getting married to a non muslim

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I will be getting married to a non muslim guy, please advise how I can advise him to become muslim after marriage

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykumwa-rahmatullāhiwa-barakaatuh.

In principle it is not permissible for a muslim female to marry a non muslim male.  Allah Ta’ala says:

{وَلا تُنْكِحُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنُوا}

Translation: And do not marry those who ascribe partners with Allah until they bring Imaan.” (Al-Baqarah Verse 221)

We advise you to exercise restraint and do not get married. Explain to the person that it is forbidden for you to marry a non muslim. Your relationship will be considered as an adulterous one, and you fear Allah and do not wish to violate the law of Allah. Tell him if he wants to marry you he must first become a muslim. Your devotion to Islam be the best form of dawah to him.

 Try to eliminate regular contact with him, instead request your male relatives or the Imaam of the locality to handle the matter by constantly giving dawah to accept Islam. We advise you to read 2 rakaat Salaatul Haajah (Prayer of need) and make a lot of duaa Allah Ta’ala put love of Islam in his heart.

We make duaa Allah Ta’ala guide, help,keep you on the straight path and protect you from His disobedience. Ameen.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
