Please advise whether I can do contractual work, for retail supermarkets such as Pick and Pay, Checkers, etc.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Please advise whether I can do contractual work, for retail supermarkets such as Pick and Pay, Checkers, etc. The work will involve staff training.  These outlets do sell alcohol and other haraam products.  Please advise if my earnings will be classified as halaal.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to our understanding, if your work entails staff training for retail supermarkets, which requires that all the individuals in the training are thoroughly taught and competent in fulfilling their responsibilities, then the earnings from such a job will be halal. The supermarkets selling some items of haram will not affect the halal status of your income.
