Does a woman need to wear hijab while reading the quran itself and/or be covered while reading quran on a piece of paper, and reading the quran in English?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

First I’d like to thank you for answering my previous question which has helped me a lot. I have a question in regards to reading quran. Does the woman need to wear hijab while reading the quran itself and/or be covered while reading quran on a piece of paper, and reading the quran in English?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh.

In principle, it is not necessary for a woman to cover her head while reading the Qur’ān.

However, to do so is a mark of respect. Allāh Ta‘ālā says:

ومن يعظم شعائر الله فإنها من تقوى القلوب

“Whosoever venerates the symbols of Allāh, then it is truly from the piety of the hearts.” (Qur’ān, 22:32)

While reciting the Qur’ān, one should bear in mind that he or she is communicating with Allāh Ta‘ālā, and hence should observe the utmost etiquette.[1] The practice of covering the head out of reverence for reading religious material has been recorded from the pious Salaf.[2]

And Allah Ta‘ālā Knows Best
