Kufr for animated images.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a strong doubt that I have committed kufr. I had a moment of weakness in the heart, and I fell into temptation for a futile thing, so I told to a disbeliever that I was allowed a thing that indeed is haram (about animated images). But I swear that in my heart I knew it was absolutely haram. And long ago, before my weakness I even told to the same person that it was, in fact, haram.

Now I’m desperate, full of anguish. I performed three times the prayer of tawbah and renewed the shahada.

Have I committed kufr? is required to renew the wedding and doing ghusl?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Before we can research your question we require more detail:

  1. Were you referring to pornographic pictures or just pictures in general?
  2. Do the pictures pertain to digital pictures or normal printed pictures?
  3. How did the interaction between you and the disbeliever come about? Did he see you utilizing the pictures and corner you in the process to which you defended yourself by saying: “I am allowed to utilize these pictures?”
  4. What were the exact words you said?
  5. Why did you say those words, out of self defence, out of anger, in a joking way or in a mocking way?
