Can Salaatul Haajah be performed with 12 rakaat?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a question about salatul hajah, is this correct method please explain. I have in a book name “pakistani panch surah” written by Iqbal ahmed Noorie, in that book it is mentioned that salaatul haajah can be performed after maghrib, 12 rakaat in the way that after 2 rakat we have to make qaida and read atahiyatu, durood and duae masoora and standup again start SANA in that way we have to complete 12 rakaat and in last rakaat first sajdah we have to recite surat fatihah 7 times, fourth kalmia 10 times and second sajdah he has mention one dua.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Salaat al Haajah is a means of acquiring the assistance of Allah Taālā. It is the Sunnah method of seeking from the unlimited treasures of Allah Ta’ālā. In one Hadith it is mentioned that who so ever has a need to ask Allah or any of the creation then he should;

·        Perform wudhū properly

·        Perform two rakaā’t salāh

Thereafter he should,

·        Praise Allah Taā’la

·        Send durūd on Nabi Sallallāhu Alayhi Wa Sallam

·        Recite the following dua:

لاإله إلا الله الحليم الكريم سبحان الله رب العرش العظيم الحمد لله رب العالمين أسئلك موجبات رحمتك وعزائم مغفرتك والغنيمة من كل بر والسلامة من كل إثم لا تدع لي ذنبا الا غفرته ولا هما إلا فرجته ولا حاجة هي لك رضا إلا قضيتها يا أرحم الراحمين

Transliteration: Lā ilāha illallāhul-halīmul-karīm subhānallāhi rabil-a’rshil-a’dhīm al-hamdu lillahi rabil-ā’lamīn asaluka mūjibāti rahmatik wa a’zāima maghfiratik wal-ghanīmata min kulli birr was-salāmata min kulli ithm lā tada’ lī dhamban illā ghafartah wa lā hamman illa farrajtah wa lā hājatan hiya laka ridhan illa qadhaytahā yā arhamar-rāhimīn

Translation: There there no god but Allah the Clement and Wise. There is no god but Allah the High and Mighty. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the Tremendous Throne.  All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds.  I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin. Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, O Most Merciful!

Tirmidhi, Hadith # 477

Allamah Shāmi, Ibn ‘ābideen has mentioned 12 rakaats of Salaat al Haajah in his famous work Raddul Muhtār. However the reference he sites for 12 rakaats classifies the narrations as fabrications. Narrations of such strength cannot be regarded as a Sunnah practice.[1]
