Dear Brother/Sister,

I’m a Chemical Engineer, recently appointed in a small town in West Germany. I met a Muslim girl here and want to marry her, but none of her guardians live in Germany. There is not a single Muslim in this town, please advise on how to perform a valid Nikah. Waiting for your reply, May Almighty give you best reward.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

You and the girl are Muslim. Furthermore, the girl is an adult. She has an independent right to marry. It is thus permissible for you to get married to her provided that there are two valid witnesses. The presence of the girl’s Wali (guardian) is not a pre-condition for the validity of the Nikaah.

You state that there are no Muslim’s in your town of residence.

We advise you to go to a bigger town/city like Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Cologne, etc where an Imam may perform your Nikaah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
