i am 20, male born muslim sunni and i am not circumcised till now wen i was taken for circumcision the man told me that he need not be circumcised . now is it obligatory for me to be circumcised ? but i am really afraid to do this. if i am not circumcised what is the sin that i am commeting .

In the name of Allah the Most Merciful, the Compassionate
Circumcision is an emphasised Sunnah and one of the prominent symbols of Islam. Even a mature person is not excused from it without a valid reason. One who does not get circumcised without a valid reason is sinful.
( و ) الأصل أن ( الختان سنة ) كما جاء في الخبر ( وهو من شعائر الإسلام ) وخصائصه ( فلو اجتمع أهل بلدة على تركه حاربهم ) الإمام فلا يترك إلا لعذر ( الدر المختار: ج 10 ص 515 ، دار المعرفة )
في الدر المختار: والظاهر في الكبير أنه يختن ويكفي قطع الأكثر ؛ وقال ابن عابدين رحمه الله: ( قوله والظاهر في الكبير أنه يختن ) الظاهر أن يختن مبني للمجهول أي يختنه غيره فيوافق إطلاق الهداية ، تأمل ( رد المحتار: ج 9 ص 631 ، دار المعرفة )
في الهداية: وصار كنظر الخافضة والختّان ؛ وفي الحاشية معزيا إلى “الكفاية” : ( كنظر الخافضة إلخ ) : [ أي نظر الطبيب إلى موضع لا يحل النظر إليه ] يعني أنهما ينظران إلى العورة لأجل الضرورة لأن الختان سنة ، وهو من جملة الفطرة في حق الرجال لا يمكن تركه إلخ ( الهداية: ج 7 ص 199 ، مكتبة البشرى )

There is nothing to fear in being circumcised. What you have is merely unwarranted fear. People have been getting circumcised for thousands of years. The procedure nowadays is much more advanced and hassle-free due to the development of equipment and drugs such as anaesthetic.
