Aas Salam Alai Kum Mufti Saheb,

A) We are not allowed as a muslim to deposit money in the bank my question to you is where should a person then deposit his money so that it is safe from getting stolen.Mow a days all the transaction are taking place thru cheques and drafts and no one accepts cash at the counter to be on the safer side even if you go to buy some property you cannot take all the cash with you for purchase pls clarify.

b} is jehad fardh in india with non muslims or with the govenment pls clarify

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

  1. In today’s world of dealings, businesses and economies, it is extremely difficult to keep away from conventional banks. There is a need to safe keep ones money. Cheques and drafts are common modes of payments and exchanges. Many instances they are even requirements. In view of such difficulties, the Ulama have granted a leeway to deposit money in conventional banks and use other facilities of such banks which are not un-Islamic. This leeway is granted as a need and could be used only to the extent of the need. One cannot go beyond the need and use the un-Islamic facilities of the bank for example the un-Islamic investments etc.
  2. It is fardh to make jihad against ones nafs and train ones nafs to abide by shariah. Our greatest enemy is the nafs and shaitaan.
