Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

The funeral prayer was certainly performed on Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam. This is recorded in the books of Ahadith and Tareekh (history). Hereunder, are the details of the janazah salah (funeral prayer) of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam:

Upon the demise of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam, Abu Talha (radiallahu anhu) lifted the bed on which he passed away, dug underneath and cut the ground for the grave. It was a ‘Lahd’ type of grave with a niche.

People entered the room in groups and performed janazah salah upon Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam. The first to perform janazah salah were the people of his tribe, then the Muhaajiruun (Emigrants), then the Ansaar (Helpers). The young were the last to pray.

This process lasted all day Tuesday and most of Wednesday until the night came.
