Salaam,

Is it permissible for anybody (even a convert) to follow a radio, tv or any other radio transmission of the Salaah . Please substantiate

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Salāt that is transmitted via radio or television and followed by individuals does not constitute congregational salāt. The requirement for the validity of congregational salāt is that the Imām and Muqtadi (follower) should perform salāt in the same location. If they are at different locations, the Muqtadi cannot follow the Imām.  Salāt that is transmitted via radio or television does not fulfil this requirement of congregational salāt, as the Imām and Muqtadi are in different locations. Furthermore, at times they (the Imām and Muqtadi) are in different time zones and this also has bearing on the validity of the salāt. Hence, salāt transmitted via radio or television should not be followed.
