the wifes haidh stopped after her normal pattern so she took ghusl and engaged in marital relations with her husband. the next day her haidh returned. what must the couple do about this. it was not known that haidh will return

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
If the bleeding continued after her normal habit, as long as it falls within ten days it will be considered as haidh. However if the bleeding continued for more than ten days, then from the day of her habit onwards, it will be considered as istihaadha.
أما المعتادة فترد لعادتها: أي ويكون ما زاد على العادة استحاضة، لا ما زاد على الاكثر فقط.اما اذا لم يتجاوز الاكثر فيهما فهو انتقال للعادة فيهما فيكون حيضا ونفاسا
To have intercourse with the wife during menses is strictly prohibited. However, if a person mistakenly had intercourse with his wife during menses, apart from repenting, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) advised that such a person should give some charity. The couple should also make Tawba and Istighfaar and exercise precaution in the future.
