Are crab and shrimp forbidden to eat according to which mahzab?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I ‘ve read somewhere that crabs and shrimp are forbidden in Hanafis. Is it true? What about the ruling of other mazhab?

Answer

According to the three Madhaahib, viz. Shaaf’ee, Maaliki and Hanbaliy,
prawns is permissible, irrespective of it being a fish or not. However,
according to the Hanafi Madhab, prawns is not permissible as it is not a
fish. Some Ulama are of the opinion the prawns is fish. Due to the
differences of opinion, it is advisable to exercise Taqwa and abstain.

And Allah Taãla Knows Best.
