Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

1. It is said that if someone says bad things or gossips about a muslim, then a person’s sins are forgiven. What if a non-muslim does that, are some of our sins forgiven then too? 2. What if we feel that a nonmuslim is giving us bad dua? What to do then? 3. Sometimes nonmuslim people ask me to pray for them (as they may be sick or in hardship or any reason). Are we allowed to pray for them? 4. Are we allowed to pray that nonmuslims (especially one that may be friends with us) accept Islam? 5. When we read Durood, we read it as ?Allahuma Saliallah Muhammad dewn, wa alay aala Muhammadin??but arabs read ?Allahuma Saliallah Muhammad, wa alay aala Muhammad.? Which of these is correct? Jazakallahu Khairun.

Answer

1. Gossiping or backbiting and the shedding of one’s sins refers to all Muslims and non-Muslims.

2. The Du’aa of any oppressed person is readily accepted. In one Hadith, Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ?Between Allah and an oppressed person, there is no obstacle. His supplications are readily accepted.? Therefore, if the non-Muslim is oppressed in any way and he makes a bad Du’aa, there is great chance of it being accepted.

3. Yes, you are allowed to pray for them. Use this as an opportunity in inviting them to Islam.

4. Yes, you are allowed to pray for their guidance.

5. Both Duroods are correct and both may be read.
