Asalaam Walaikum,

Alhamdulliah me and my wife have just returned from Hajj. Please make dua it is accepted. There were a few situations that we need to know weather a Dum is required.

1) My wife fell very ill on the 10th Dhul Hijja (taken to hospital) as a result I pelted the Jamarat. However due to delays at the hospital the Qurbani was done first then the Pelting then the Hair cutting. Does it matter which order the rights are done? Or do we need to give a Dum?

2) As my wife was still poorly on the 11th we threw our stones at the jamarat at 8.00am before Zawal, we were told this is permissible for those that were weak, ill or infirm. Could you clarify if it permissible to pelt stones before Zawal on the 11th? Or will a Dum need to be given?

3) On the 12th our group left at 10am. Therefore we again pelted our stones before Zawwal at 8am. My wife was still feeling unwell and had to leave with the group. Again was it permissible for us to pelt stones at that time or will we need to give a Dum?

4) Finally, if 1 or more Dums are required how can we do that from the UK? Does it need to be a sacrifice or can they be made up with Fasts? Please clarify.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We make dua Allah Taala grant you an accepted Hajj. Ameen.

  1. According to the Hanafi madhab, it is compulsory (wajib) to maintain the sequence between rami and qurbani. The rami must be done before the qurbani. However the compulsion in sequence between rami and qurbani may be relaxed due to compelling circumstances as in the ill health situation of your wife. Accordingly there won’t be dam for violating the sequence in this specific situation. 1
  2. The time for rami on the 11th and 12th commences after zawaal. It is not permissible to do rami  before zawaal, therefore one damm will be compulsory(wajib) for not doing the rami after zawaal.23
  3. One of the conditions of damm is that it has to be slaughtered in the vicinity of the Haram. You may arrange for someone to slaughter the animals of dam in the Haram vicinity.4

 وأما وقت الرمي في اليوم الثاني والثالث فهو ما بعد الزوال إلى طلوع الشمس من الغد حتى لا يجوز الرمي فيهما قبل الزوال إلا أن ما بعد الزوال إلى غروب الشمس وقت مسنون وما بعد الغروب إلى طلوع الفجر وقت مكروه هكذا روي في ظاهر الرواية
