Banking Job, complete contract VS run away (Halal/Haram VS Moral Responsibility)

Banking Job, complete contract VS run away (Halal/Haram    VS    Moral Responsibility)

I am IT professional in Canada, always avoid banking/insurance company JOB, due to job-less for 3 months and tough market condition, I took 6 month renewable contract for Bank with intention that I will leave it as soon find some non-banking ASAP.

After joining bank, found all colleagues hindus, mostly good people, I am only person with beard/ practicing muslim, they respect me lot and happy with my work.

Money is good, people are good, work is not best but fine, only problem is it’s Bank.

They are investing on me in terms of trainings, giving me time to learn as they are planing to keep me for longer period, however I am continuously looking for another job to avoid Bank sector. I did lot of research and found working for Bank in any department is not recommended/haram etc.

As these people are good with me, investing in terms of time and expecting that I would be productive after some time, now I spent 3 months with them- still not able to find job, should I leave them if I find job or complete (at-least 6 month contract and avoid re-new), in this way I will be giving them back what they invested on me…

My feeling is, they hired me, putting time on me, I should give them back instead of if I find some other job and run away. This would be big loss for them as they need to hire another person and invest again 1-2 month to reach level where I am today. Being muslim we should also consider loss of other. If I do same hiring and person run away…it’s big frustration.

By legal contract, any party could terminate with 2 week notice, so I could leave any time and they could also fire me with 2 week notice.

however I feel un-ethical, and it will also destroy my professional image + reputation. Because I had already joined them, I think now to complete 6 month to fulfil moral commitment…

above thought versus “all banking jobs are haram, and I should quit ASAP”

Which approach should I follow being good muslim, from Shariah perspective.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to our understanding, you work in the IT department of the bank. If so, your work is Shariah Compliant. Your income will be Halal. If you are serving in another department of the bank, explain that role in detail for us to advise.
