Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The narration of the story in reference is found in Shuābul Imaan. Hadhrat Urwah ibn Zubair Rahimahullah states:

“When Hazrat Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu came to visit Syria, the elders of the land and the leaders of the different cities  came to greet him. Hazrat Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu asked “where is my brother?” The people asked “who is your brother?” Hazrat Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu replied “Abu Ubaidah”. The people responded “he is coming to you now” Soon enough Hazrat Abu Ubaydah Radhiyallahu Anhu came on a she camel to receive Hazrat Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu. The she camel had a rope tied with her nose.  Hazrat Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu conversed with him and then said to the people “leave us” He then went with Hazrat Abu Ubaidah Radhiyallahu Anhu until he came to his abode. Upon entering, he found nothing therein except a sword, a shield and a saddle. Hazrat Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu asked him “Why have you not kept other necessary things in your house?” Hazrat Abu Ubaydah replied “Oh Commander of the Faithful, these things will carry me to the the grave (where I will be answerable)”
