What Duas and Prayers or good deeds can I perform myself to ask Allah to give him Hidayah?

Your Excellency, dear Mufti! I have a following questions: What Dua/Prayers and good deeds can I recommend to a person who suffers from drug addiction, unpaid debts and criminal records in order to start a new life? What Duas and Prayers or good deeds can I perform myself to ask Allah to give him Hidayah? (this person asked me to pray for him). May Allah reward you for your guidance.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Every sin whether it is taking drugs or criminal activities or compound debts bring grief to a person. The enjoyment of the sin is short lived and the consequences are more than the temporary enjoyment. A person involved in a sinful way of  life knows this very well and searches for ways to get out of the sin. He knows that there is peace in abstaining from sin. However, he requires help. Take the opportunity to encourage your friend to turn his life around. Asses his situation and apply your mind how he can turn his life around. This requires a lot of thinking and support. Assisting such a person is indeed a great act of reward.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
