Qadha Salat

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) I would like to know whether it is permissible under Hanifi fiqh to make up for your missed faraidh since adulthood, by making the niyaa of qadha during the sunnah mua’kidah. e.g. if I am praying dhuhr, instead of the 4 sunnah mua’kidah before the 4 faraaid of dhuhr can I pray qada’ for my missed dhuhr prayer i.e. 4 raka’ qadaa’ instead of the 4 sunnah that precede dhuhr fard? Same question for fajr.

A.) The Sunnahs before Fajr and Dhuhr Salat according to the Jurists come under the category of Sunan Muakkadah (emphasized Sunnats). The person who habitually neglects or forsakes this type of Sunnahs will be committing a grave sin. Therefore, it will not be permissible to perform your Qadha Salats instead of the Sunnats of Fajr or Dhuhr. The Sunnats of Fajr and Dhuhr must be performed separately. And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
