Mustajabud Da’waat

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) Please kindly enlighten me on the subject of Mustajabud Da’waat with examples if possible. Jazakallah. [Dr.Mohammed Ameen]

A.) Mustajaab-ut-Da’awaat are a group of pious servants of Allah Ta’ala favoured by Him with the gift of the definite acceptance of their supplications (Du’as). All the Ambiya, alayhimu salam, were bestowed with this gift. Similarly, many Sahaaba-e-Kiraam were also bestowed with the gift. One such person was Uways al-Qarni, Radi-Allahu anhu. He was present at the time of Rasulullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam but did not become a Sahabi as he was engaged in the service of his mother.

Sayyidna Umar, Radi-Allahu anhu, narrates that Rasulullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam once told him, “A man by the name of Uways will come to you from Yemen. He will have no family in Yemen save for his mother. He (Uways) previously suffered with the illness of white liver, but upon supplicating to Allah Ta’ala, he was cured except for a small portion of his skin the size of a Dinaar or a Dirham. Whosoever amongst you (the Sahaba) meets him, should request him to make Du’a-e-Maghfirat (Du’a for forgiveness) for you.” (Mishkaat pg.581; Delhi)

The Advice of Rasulullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam to the Sahaba, Radi-Allahu anhu, to seek Du’a-e-Maghfirat on behalf of themselves from Sayyidna Uways al-Qarni, Radi-Allahu anhu, is in itself indicative of him being from amongst the Mustajab-e-Da’awaat. Apart from the Mustajab-e-Da’awaat, Nabi Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned that the Du’as of certain people are readily accepted.

Consider the following Ahadith:

  1. Sayyidna Abu Hurayra, Radi-Allahu anhu, narrates that Nabi Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Three people’s Du’as are not rejected:
    a) a fasting persons Du’a at the time of Iftaar
    b) The Du’a of the just ruler
    c) The Du’a of an oppressed person. Allah raises this Du’a above the clouds and the doors of the skies are opened and Allah Ta’ala says, ‘By my honour, I will assist you even though after the elapse of some time.'” (Mishkaat pg.195; Delhi)
  2. Sayyidna Abu Hurayra, Radi-Allahu anhu, narrates that Rasulullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, ‘Three Du’as are accepted without a shadow of doubt:
    a) The Du’a of the parents,
    b) The Du’a of the travellers,
    c) Du’a of the oppressed. (Mishkaat pg.195; Delhi)
  3. Sayyidna ibn Abbaas, Radi-Allahu anhu narrates that Nabi Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said that five persons Du’as are accepted:
    a) The Du’a of the oppressed until he is assisted,
    b) The Du’a of the Haji until he returns,
    c) The Du’a of the Mujahid until he completes his task of Jihad,
    d) The Du’a of the sick and ailing until they are cured,
    e) The Du’a of a brother for his brother in his absence.
Thereafter, he said that (among these 5) the quickest is the Du’a of a brother for his brother in his absence. (Mishkaat pg.196; Delhi)
