Miqat for Umrah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Albalagh.net

Miqat for Umrah

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) I am residing in Riyadh and often travel for business to Jeddah. At the time of travel the duration of my stay is often not known, but usually my stay is around a month at a time. When in Jeddah if I decide to go for Umra, what will be the valid Miqat? According to the Hanafi fiqh would I need to travel to a specific spot for Miqat or would the rules of a Jeddah resident apply?

A.) Once you have made an intention to stay in Jeddah for 15 days or more, you become a resident in Jeddah. Hence, your ruling donning Ihraam will be same as a person residing in Jeddah.

A person who resides in Jeddah and wishes to perform Umrah should don the Ihraam in Jeddah before he enters the boundaries of the haram. However, if he does not wish to perform Umrah, he may pass the boundary of the haram without any Ihraam. (Aap ke Masaail vol.4 pg.101)
